The City has asked the Grosse Pointe Woods Foundation to help purchase a dedicated patrol vehicle for the department’s new K-9 officer.
Arcos, a German Shepherd currently progressing well through training, will serve in a variety of vital roles including missing-person searches, school safety programs, and the tracking and apprehension of suspects. While he is partnered with Grosse Pointe Woods Officer Duncan Gill, Arcos will be available to support the other Grosse Pointes whenever needed.
The K-9 patrol vehicle will be a Chevy Tahoe equipped with specialized features such as a remote-access door opener, crush-protection cage, window guards, and advanced temperature-control systems to keep Arcos safe. The total cost is approximately $100,000. With a 6–8 week lead time, the goal is to place the order by year-end so the vehicle arrives before Arcos completes his training in February.
